Bounty Hunter

Bounty Hunters are the dirtiest SOBs in the galaxy.  They dont care about anything but getting their bounty.  Bounty Hunters are the filth of the galaxy--willing to sell their own allies out for a profit.  Thats what it is all about too--PROFIT.  Dirty tricks are their speciality. Bounty Hunters make smugglers look like saints. Enough can not be said about their motivation to hunt, stalk, and kill their bounties. One phrase represents the Bounty Hunter of the SWG: ANYTHING GOES...

I. Player Bounty Hunting

WHAT IS A BOUNTY? HOW DO I GET ONE? HOW DO TAKE A BOUNTY MISSION?

A player bounty is a PvP mission that a BH takes to clear a bounty that has been placed on a player.

Bounties are placed on a player that kills an opposite faction player in combat or guildwar.

Bounty Hunters can take bounty mission from a Bounty Hunter mission terminal.

How a player bounty is marked:

Any player in the game can declare "Special Forces" and then engage in Player-vs.-Player combat.
As players engage in PvP battles, they will automatically accumulate credits on their total bounty.
If you are killed in PvP combat, you will also have the option of placing a bounty on the player who killed you in combat.
A window will open so you can set the bounty. The window will display the maximum and minimum bounty amounts, as well as your current funds.
The bounty can be any amount from 20,000 credits to 1,000,000 credits.
If a player defeats enough enemies in PvP combat, they will have enough credits on their bounty to show up on the bounty hunter terminals located throughout the galaxy.
Any bounty hunter can then take a player bounty mission from the bounty hunter terminal (bounty hunters will not know the names of specific characters by taking these missions).
These missions are anonymous. The Bounty Hunter knows only that he is hunting another player the faction alignment of their mark.
Up to three (3) bounty hunters can take a mission on the same target.
Bounty Hunters earn the total amount of bounty credits on the target (and only the bounty credits). The Bounty Hunter will also earn extra faction points if they complete a bounty on someone of the opposing faction or lose faction points for completing a bounty on someone of the same faction.
The maximum total amount of bounty credits that any single player can have on them at one time is 20,000,000 credits.
A player bounty may not be marked:

Players cannot have a bounty placed on their character by another player until they are level 20 or above.
A player cannot place bounty credits if their character's death is the result of a duel.
A player cannot place bounty credits if their death is the result of the mission target killing the Bounty Hunter.
Neither the Bounty Hunter nor their mission target can place a bounty on the other player as a result of the bounty mission PvP death.
A player cannot place bounty credits if they do not have enough money to meet the minimum bounty amount requirement.
How a Bounty Hunter tracks their target:

Bounty Hunters start by taking a player bounty mission from any Bounty Hunter mission terminal throughout the galaxy.
Bounty hunters can then use their bounty hunting tools (bounty hunting droids, etc.) and prowess to track down their mission target.
A bounty hunter cannot access PvP Bounty missions until they are level 22 (the level at which they gain droid tracking), and players will not appear on the PvP bounty list until their character is at least level 20 or above.
When a Bounty Hunter finds their mark:

Once a Bounty Hunter takes a player mission, they are flagged for PvP combat with their target.
Bounty Hunters get first strike in combat. Smugglers have a "Shoot First" ability that can be used if the Bounty Hunter has their mission.
Once a Bounty Hunter makes a move and attacks their bounty target, the target player can attack back immediately (Please note that all PvP rules are still in effect!).
If a bounty hunter successfully kills their mission target, the bounty hunter will earn all of the bounty credits their target.
Any Bounty Hunters who might also have the same mission target will be notified that the target is no longer valid when the mission target is slain.
If the bounty hunter is killed by the target of his/her bounty mission, the hunter fails the mission and will need to get a new mission. In this case, the target keeps the bounty on his/her head and other bounty hunters may continue to hunt the target.
Bounty Hunter / Player Bounty Attacks:

Once a Bounty Hunter takes a player mission, they are flagged for PvP combat with their target. Once a Bounty Hunter makes a move and attacks their bounty target, the target player can attack back immediately.
ALL PvP rules are still in effect so if both a Bounty Hunter and their mark are declared for full PvP combat, either player may attack the other player at any time.
Once the PvP combat encounter begins, players that are factionally opposed to the Bounty Hunter can assist the target in killing the Bounty Hunter and visa versa; players that are factionally opposed to the target can help the Bounty Hunter kill their target.
However, the Bounty Hunter must be the player delivering the death blow in order to win the mission (and get the payout).
Additional Player Bounty System Details:

Once a Bounty Hunter takes a player bounty mission, they will be flagged for PvP combat 10-20 seconds after they take the mission. The PvP flag remains in effect for as long as the mission is active.
All PvP rules are in effect. That means that if you are declared "Special Forces" or engaged in a Guild War all PvP rules still apply.
Bounties placed on a player are cumulative. If multiple bounties are placed on a player, their overall bounty amount will increase.
A single player can have multiple bounties on them.
No bounties will be accumulated for combat with creatures or NPCs (PvE) whether they are faction NPCs or not. Player Bounties are only accumulated for PvP combat.
Player Bounty Missions have Faction Point bonuses and penalties. Bounty Hunters who kill targets of the opposite faction will earn a faction point bonus and killing a target of the same faction will get a faction point penalty.
Bounty icons are no longer used.
The /bountycheck command will still be used for NPC mission targets, but will not do anything when used on a player target.
If a player has multiple bounties on them, the Bounty Hunter will collect all of the bounty rewards on their target.
Players who try to log out as a way to escape a bounty hunter will find that their character will stay in the world. Their character can (and probably) will be killed by the bounty hunter.
Players may not place bounties if their character is killed in a duel.
Here is an example of how Player Bounty Hunting might happen:

An Imperial player kills a Rebel player in PvP combat.
A window will pop up asking the Rebel if he or she wants to take out a bounty on the Imperial player.
The Rebel player can choose to take out the bounty. At they time, they will be asked for the amount of credits they wish to make the bounty (up to a maximum of 1,000,000 credits). The bounty is effective immediately.
This will deduct the specified amount from your bank account or from your cash on-hand and added the bounty to your killer.
A player with a bounty will always display as red on the Bounty Hunter's radar as soon as the PvP flag is set.
Bounty Hunter droids are only used to track the target and are not necessary to complete the mission.

II. Bounty Hunter Droids & Mission Preview

There are two different droids that Bounty Hunters use to find their bounty.

Arakyd droids are used to search for the exact PLANET your bounty is on.

Seeker droids are used to search the exact location of the bounty on the planet.

A bounty hunter must use the Arakyd droid first to locate the bounty, then travel to the planet and launch a seeker droid to pinpoint the bounties current location.

Here is a detail how to find and buy them on the Bazaar search. Lets Buy some droids...

1. Use VENDOR LOCATION filter.

2. Use ENTIRE GALAXY filter.

3. Use MISC filter.

Now use FACTORY CRATE search.

The Bounty Hunter droids names are ARAKYD and SEEKER droid.  You will want to buy at least one crate of each to do BH missions.

Preview of a player bounty mission.

1. Now we will view how to pick a BH mission and use a droid.

Here is a BH Mission terminal, you can find these at all Cities.

2. The mission terminal will let you pick a PVP or a PVE mission.

The PVP missions are Rebel Operative for Imperial BHs or Imperial Operative for Rebel BHs.  You can also pick and hunt the same factio.

PVE missions are usually from the Bounty Hunter's Guild.

3. Once you pick a mission you will get a Mission Received message.

4. Next you will use call an ARAKYD droid from your inventory.

5. The ARAKYD droid will be used to find what planet your Bounty is on.  Call the droid and wait for it to land.  This will take 20 seconds and the droid will fly to you so stand still.

6. Now transmit the Biosignature on the ARAKYD droid.

Fly to the nearest Starport and wait for the message to tell you what planet your Bounty is on.

7. Fly to your planet(mine was on lok) and use a SEEKER droid when you get there to PinPoint your target on the map.

8. Now travel to the location of the Bounty and prepare for combat.  If you have followed the combat prep instructions in this guide, this will be the end result of your hard work.

III. Profession Special Overview

Bounty Hunter: Core Skills

These are the skills that come inherently in the profession wheel.  Rather than list the order in which you get them, I am going to lump together similar attacks, list the levels at which they improve, and give a description.

Assault

(Granted at CL 1, Progression is CL: 1, 10, 22, 30, 42, 54, 66, 7 - The default special attack of a Bounty Hunter, it is widely the most used Bounty Hunter Special.  It does nothing special, other than cause more damage than the default attack.  Usually used to bridge from one special to another while awaiting a cooldown timer to finish.

Ambush

(Granted at CL 4, Progression is CL: 4, 14) - A special attack that increases an opponent's vulnerability to critical hits.  It debuffs your opponent, lowering their critical hit resistance (or increasing your critical hit chance, however you look at it).

Cripple

(Granted at CL 7, Progression is CL: 7, 18, 26) - A special attack that snares your opponent, and also does more damage than the default attack (although less than Assault)

Burn

(Granted at CL 46, Progression is CL: 46, 74) - An "AOE" or "Area of Effect" special attack that fires in a cone in front of you, hitting multiple enemies, and does more damage than a normal default attack.  Burn does Heat Elemental Damage and has a 35m range.

Heal

(Granted at CL 7, Progression is CL: 7, 34, 58, 82) - The default heal for Bounty Hunter.  This helps you recover some health at the cost of your action.

Tangle Bomb

(Granted at CL 38, Progression is CL: 38, 62, 86) - An "AOE" special attack that casts a net at the feet of the Bounty Hunter, and snares anyone who walks on it.  Typically does little to no damage.

Razor Net

(Granted at CL 50, Progression is CL: 50, 70, and 90) - An "AOE" special attack that casts a net at the feet of the Bounty Hunter, and snares anyone who walks on it.  Razor Net also does "tick" damage (damages an opponent a set amount for a set number of times) and grants a chance at "DOT" (Damage over Time) damage by way of a bleed.

Bounty Check

(Granted at CL 86, Progression is CL: 86) - This skill checks to see if a random, non-elite NPC is actually a fugitive in hiding.  If the NPC is, and is revealed, the Bounty Hunter engages with the NPC while Duel of the Fates plays as the combat music.  Upon killing the fugitive, a collection is opened:  Find and kill all 10 of the different hiding fugitives using Bounty Check, and you will be granted a Master Crafted EE3 Carbine or DC-15 Rifle schematic, which you can take to a crafter to be made.  The Collection is repeatable by visiting the Bounty Check Collections NPC in the Bestine Cantina.

Conceal Device

(Granted at CL 90, Progression is CL: 90) - A 30 Second Buff that automatically conceals any factional traps you set down.  Cooldown is 40 Seconds.

Detect Camouflage

(Granted at CL 90, Progression is CL: 90) - A skill that allows a Bounty Hunter to potentially detect a nearby cloaked character.

Tier 2:

Small Arms Efficiency -- Carbine and Pistols Action Reduction: [3%] [6%] [10%] [15%] 4 points total

Rifle Marksmanship -- Rifle Damage Increase: [2%] [5%] 2 points total

  Kinetic Armor -- Kinetic Protection Increase: [250] [500] [750] [1000] 4 points total

Commentary- No PVP BH in there right mind would put any points into kinetic armor. Waste of points.

  Energy Armor -- Energy Protection Increase: [500] [1000] [1500] [2000] 4 points total

Commentary- I would take 1000 energy protection because it is a very good increase for only 2 pts.

Tier 4:

Deadly Strikes -- Carbine and Pistols Range and Critical Hit Bonus: Carbine Range [10m] - Pistol Range [5m]

Carbine and Pistol Critical: [10%]  1 point total

Commentary- One of the best point investments in the BH expertise. Great range and critical hit increase.

Sniper Shot -- High damage attack made from the infamous prone position: [Sniper Shot 1-6] 1 point total

Commentary- Snipershot is a high damage attack but the prone position causes LOS issues and specials to misfire. Snipershot can be very effective with the Flawless Jewelry set and strikethru attacks. Use at your own risk

Melee Defense -- Block Chance Increase vs. Melee only: [1%] [2%] [3%] 3 points total

Commentary- This box is everything that is wrong with the outdated BH expertise, but is required for BHs to get PAS so deal with it.

Ranged Defense -- Dodge Chance Increase vs. Ranged only: [1%] [2%] [3%] 3 points total

Commentary- This is the worst box you can get in the BH expertise.  Do not waste any points in this box!!!

Tier 5:

Relentless Onslaught (RO)-- All Action Cost Reduction: [75%/15 seconds] 1 point total

Requires an equipped Carbine or Pistol for use.

Commentary- By far the most important Box in the Bounty Specialization expertise.  This is a must have for all BHs.

Take Cover -- Rifle Damage Increase, Ranged Defense Increase, Invisible to Radar: Rifle Damage [10%]

Ranged Glancing Glow [40%]  1 point total, requires the prone posture

Commentary- A good box to have if you are using Rifles.  Damage increase is significant as well as the radar invisiblity.

Power Sprint -- Power Assisted Sprint (PAS) Increased movement speed, prevents/removes snares:

[60%/30 seconds] 1 point total

Commentary- A vital skill for PvP BHs, so consider it to cost 4 points due to the melee defense requirement.

Duelist Stance -- Reactive Heal that applies only if the BH is taking damage: [950 heal*5] 1 point total

Commentary- An absolute slap in the face to any sane BH.  If you waste points on this box you will be a failBH...

Bounty Hunter Expertise

Bounty Hunting Tree

Tier 1:

Assault Efficiency -- Assault Special Attack Action Reduction: [5%] [10%] [15%] [20%] 4 points total

Commentary- Decent box to have 5-10% invested in, especially for Rifle BHs. Works great for the Enforcer jewelry.

  Absorption -- Kinetic Protection Increase: [125] [250] [375] [500] 4 points total

Commentary- Beginning of the Shields line. Not real point effective but is required for Shields so invest all 4 points.

Ambush Efficiency -- Ambush Special Attack Action Reduction: [5%] [10%] [15%] [20%] 4 points total

Commentary- Not necessary for BHs but works good with the Enforcer jewelry set.

  Lethality -- Cripple Special Attack Damage Increase: [5%] [10%] [15%] [25%] 4 points total

Commentary- An absolute waste of points.

Tier 2:

Intense Assault -- Assault Special Attack Damage Increase: [2%] [5%] [10%] 3 points total

Commentary- Assault is BHs MAIN attack.  I would invest all 3 points in this box to get Return Fire also.

Return Fire -- Special ability that executes a retaliatory bonus attack: [Return Fire] 1 point total

Requires Intense Assault Box and only works when you are being attacked.  Damage is 25% of base weapon damage.

Commentary- An old time classic attack for BHs.  The cooldown and timer can be improved with the Enforcer jewelry set. Very useful but not required.

Ambush Intensity -- Ambush Special Attack Damage Increase: [2%] [5%] [10%] 3 points total

Commentary-  Damage is important but point wise I would not invest points in this.

Trap Extension -- Radius Increase of Razor Net and Tangle Bomb Traps: [1m] [2m] 2 points total

Commentary- Waste of points.  Does NOT increase the radius of Dire Root traps.

Tier 3:

Rapid Assault -- Assault Special Attack Cooldown Reduction: [.5 second] [1 second] 2 points total

Commentary- Reduces the cooldown of Assault to 3 seconds.  Absolutley important to have, especially for Enforcer jewelry set.

Antagonize -- NPC Taunt/Aggro Special Attack: [Antagonize] 1 point total

Commentary- Not useful in PvP but helpful for PVE BH tanks.  Required for Prescience so invest in this box.

 Deflection -- Energy Armor Increase: [250] [500] [750] [1000] 4 points total

Requires Absorption box.

Commentary- Not very point effective but this is required for Shields so invest 4 points in this box.

Swift Ambush -- Ambush Special Attack Cooldown Reduction: [1 second] [2 seconds] 2 points total

Commentary- Reduces the cooldown of Ambush to 6 seconds.  A must have for BHs that want Armor Break.

Cruelty -- Snare Duration Increase of Cripple, Razor Net, and Tangle Bomb: [1 second] [2 seconds] [3 seconds] 3 points total

Commentary- Beginning of the line for Dread Strike, so invest 3 points here.

Tier 4:

Fumble -- Glancing Blow Special Attack: [40% GB /15 seconds] 1 point total

Requires Antagonize box.

Commentary- Fumble is vital in PVE and works well on Jedi, so invest in this attack and use in all combat.

Advanced Ambush -- Armor Break/Critical Hit Special Attack: [Ambush 1-8] 1 point total

Requires Swift Ambush Box.  Armor break stacks 6% for up to 5 times.

Commentary- The infamous AB stack.  What can I say other than please unnerf.  AB is very difficult to stack in combat but all BHs need this box for the damage.  Invest in this box.

Advanced Armor Break: Ambush Special Attack Damage/Critical Hit Increase: [2%] damage, [10%] critical hit.  1 point total

Requires Advanced Ambush box.

Commentary- Although this box seems enticing, it is not very effective.  You will NOT notice the difference in combat.

Intimidating Strike -- Action Drain Special Attack: [Intimidating Strike 1-6] 1 point total

Requires Cruelty box.

Commentary- The action drain is minor but can be very effective in combat vs Commandos, Medics, and DSJ.  Take this for Dread Strike.

Tier 5:

Innate Assault -- Assault Special Attack Freeshot: [20%] Freeshot.  1 point total

Requires Rapid Assault box.

Commentary- Freeshot is bugged.  This works about half of the time for assault, so consider it 10% instead of 20%. I woudlnt invest in this.

Prescience -- Damage Avoidance Special Ability: [Prescience] 1 point total

Requires Fumble box.  Single target damage avoidance for 6 seconds.

Commentary- Prescience is the cornerstone of PVP hunting.  Prescience only works on a single target at a time and you must have line-of-sight. A must have for all BHs.

Shields -- Damage Reduction Special Ability: [Shields] 1 point total

Requires Deflection Box

Commentary- Shields is a must have ability for any BH setup. 99% base damage reduction that decrease upon taking damage, also INCREASES your Damage Output while Shields decays.

Man Hunter -- Critical Hit Increase vs PVP and Humanoids: [1%] [2%] [3%] [5%] 4 points total

Commentary- Do NOT waste any points in this box.

Dread Strike -- Damage and Healing Reduction Special Attack: [Dread Strike] 1 point total

Requires Intimidating Strike.  Target 25% damage reduction and 50% healing reduction for 15 seconds.

Commentary- One of the best attacks in the BH arsenal.  This is a must have for every BH.

V. Bounty Hunter Expertise Recap & Example Setups

Bounty Specialization Tree

All stat boxed are expensive and provide only upto an increase of 50.  You are required to invest in 1 box to advance the expertise.  Only take 1 box--Do NOT invest in more than 1 box because you will regret it.

BH/BMs should avoid this side of the BH expertise.

The assault armor restrictions for this side of the expertise were removed in GU6.  You can use any type of armor and have the bonuses and specials.

The Carbine/Pistols line is the best choice for BHs, as it provides a range increase and a critical hit increase.  I would suggest taking the full Carbine line for beginning BHs also.  Relentless Onslaught is an awesome ability that lets you spam your attack specials without using much action.

The Rifle line used to be the main choice for all BHs.  Sniper Shot is very risky to use due to the line-of-sight and bug issues with SS. Rifles have great damage potential and there are some powerful rifles to use in combat.  Rifles is very effective in PVE also. The GLC rifle is the highest DPS rifle ingame, and the electric elemental is vital for PVE combat.

BH melee/ranged defense sucks and the point/benefit ratio is aweful.  The only reason to invest in melee is to get Power Sprint. PAS is very important for PVP Bounty Hunters, while not required it is almost a shame not to invest in it.

Relentless Onslaught is a powerful ability, Take Cover can be very useful in certain situations, PAS is important, and last and least is Duelist Stance.  Duelist Stance is a joke.  Do not get this ability becuase you are simply wasting points here.  Duelist Stance is a Reactive Heal but should be changed to a Heal-Over-Time.

Bounty Hunting Tree

BH/BMs should invest in this side of the BH expertise.  Most BH/BMs try to pick up the Shields line and the Prescience/Fumble special attacks.

Assault and Ambush damage are good to have, but Assault damage is required for Return Fire.  It is a very wise choice to have Return Fire and is mandatory if you are using the Enforcers jewelry set.

Assault and Ambush action reduction are good to have also, but are not necessary.  I try to invest in 10% assault action reduction.

Avoid cripple damage, trap extension, and Man Hunter.  They are useless and a complete waste of expertise points.

Return Fire is a good special attack to have.  The Enforcer jewelry set reduces the cooldown to 45 seconds and increases the timer to 25 seconds.

Assault and Ambush cooldown reduction boxes are mandatory for almost all BHs.  They are the two main BH attacks and you will not succeed without them.

Prescience and Shields are the basis for Bounty Hunter defense.  All BHs that PVP hunt need to have these defense specials to be successful.  Prescience is a single target damage avoidance ability, and is mainly only for single target hunting.  Shields is great for mass PvP and provides much needed protection.  Becareful when you use these specials, because they are on a fairly long cooldown.

Bounty Hunter Armor--What should you use?

This info is for the purpose of the Bounty Hunter Guide/Stickied--For armor specific to the Bounty Hunter profession.  This is common knowledge for most players.  All this info is available on the munitions faq, and I added my comments.

Everyone should know that the pre-requisite for Assault armor for the BH expertise for PAS and Duelist stance line has been removed.

I fully recommend Primus Layered Assault Armor.  This is why: The BH expertise is compatible for assault armor because the expertise gives BH access to energy protection at a better cost than kinetic.

Bounty Hunter Expertise:

Bounty Specialization offers 1000 Kinetic protection for 4 pts; while offering 2000 Energy protection for 4 pts.

Bounty Hunting - Shield's line offers 500 Kinetic for 4 pts(Ouch); while offering 1000 Energy for 4 pts. Very expensive for expertise points for little protection. IMO.

So the use of Assault primus armor makes up the difference of protection, and most players try to use Kinetic weapons to bypass PSG's; therefore, a high kinetic protection is very important.

RESISTANCE

1000   - 10% Mitigation
2000   - 20% Mitigation
3000   - 29% Mitigation
4000   - 36% Mitigation
5000   - 43% Mitigation
6000   - 48% Mitigation
7000   - 53% Mitigation
8000   - 58% Mitigation
9000   - 62% Mitigation
10000 - 65% Mitigation
11000 - 67% Mitigation
12000 - 70% Mitigation

These values help to reduce all attack damage, but they do NOT reflect how they help reduce DOTs. Those are reduced by the following:

1000   - 05% Mitigation
2000   - 10% Mitigation
3000   - 15% Mitigation
4000   - 18% Mitigation
5000   - 22% Mitigation
6000   - 24% Mitigation
7000   - 27% Mitigation
8000   - 29% Mitigation
9000   - 31% Mitigation

MAXIMUM DOT REDUCTION - 65%

Different Armor types have Innate Bonuses to them to fight against DOTs as well. Every player has a 5% innate chance to resist all DOTs. Resisting a DOT is the act of avoiding the damage done by a DOT. There is a chance the DOT will fall off and no longer tick or reduce in damage by a massive amount. Each type of armor you wear will increase the resistance chance on specific DOTs. Those types are listed here:

Assault Armor - ACID / HEAT
Battle Armor - POISON / ENERGY
Reconnaissance Armor - BLEED / DISEASE

Equipment

Armor / Clothing / Jewelry

Top of the line crafted armor is far superior to looted armor, crafted armor can still be made with up to +350 health bonus and you can customize the stats on your armor by using Armor Attachments.

Typical crafted armor stats:

Assault - Energy : 5000, Kinetic : 7000, Elemental : 6000
Appearances: Chitin, Composite, Ithorian Sentinel, Kashyyykian Hunting, Factional, Bounty Hunter and Mandalorian.

Personal Shield Generator - 2400 Energy Resist, 65% recharge time. Note: Absorbs energy damage from ranged attacks only.

These are the locations where you can equip non-armor items:

Non Armor:

Necklace
Ring x 2
Bracelet x 2
Shirt (can apply an "Exotic" attachment)
Boots
Gloves
Belt - You may prefer the extra protection of a Personal Shield Generator.
Backpack

That gives you a lot of room for stat boosts without giving up armor resists. Profession rewards belts also have stats, but take the place of a Personal Shield Generator.

Armor:
Helmet
Chest (can apply an "Exotic" attachment)
2 x Biceps
2 x Bracers
Legs

Traders can also supply you with Armor, Clothing and Weapon powerups!  These have limited use and each use lasts for a set time only.
